I N T E R A C T I V E  O B J E C T S

Week One Summary:

Tutorial Two

Today we all bought in 5 everyday objects which we thought expressed each sense well and talked about them as well as passing them around and explaining to everyone why we chose them and which one was our favorite.

My Objects were:

  1. T O U C H - For my touch sense i chose cotton wool as shown in the picture above, reason for choosing this object because the feeling of holding and squeezing cotton wool is just heavenly like as the wool is just so soft and feels as if its melting in your hands and the extremely softness of the object feels amazing, cotton wool is generally used to apply substances to the body such as creams or alcohol for cuts, it is used because of its physical soft feeling and effectively works well as it functions as it should feeling amazing. Visually it doesn't have any amazing features as it is just white and looks unappealing to some, but function over aesthetics this is very functional.
  2. S I G H T - For my sight object I used a keychain flash light which I found on my dresser, I found this to fit the sight sense effectively as when there is no sight this flash light provides it when you are in a pitch black situation, as most flash lights do I felt it gives you a sense of direction when you are alone with no light and no sense of direction. The light is small but powerful and would be extremely functional in the dark night.
  3. S M E L L - For smell i brought a oil scent which is a product you put above a candle burning and as it heats up the aromas from the fragrance slowly start to fill the air in the room due to physics and science, I chose this as I feel it provides a peaceful scent in the room which provides a sense of relaxation and just smells incredibly nice!
  4. T A S T E - For my taste sense I bought in a packet of chewing gum, I felt this is appropriate as its one of my favorite pass times and I'm sure everyone has been in that situation were boredom has take over and even though gum is a small 1cm by 1cm green substance it provides hours of fun when you are chewing it. Gum isn't only used for the solution to boredom but it also provides a perfect stimulation inside your mouth from the first bite until it is thrown out. Starting off crunchy it magically turns into a chewy form which lasts forever, the gum also provides a way to make your breath smell amazing! Gum has many functions and I felt it best fit my taste sense.
  5. H E A R I N G - My hearing object is not in my image but for my hearing sense I chose a dog whistle as I felt a whistle is one of those objects which makes a distinctive noise which everyone can recognize and digest. The holder of a whilst normally has a sense of power whether it be a police office, a referee or a coach when blown everyone generally knows to stop and respond accordingly.
My favorite object from thee was the gum as I felt it has the biggest place in my life as I generally consume it more than once a day it always know how to make me happy!

After we all expressed and presented our objects we got into groups and discussed a specific sense and created brainstorms around the sense. My group was given S I G H T.

As you can see we came out with lots of ideas! The ideas which stood out to me the best was the emotion attachment which we associate with different colors and it reminded me of a sense confusing game where there would be colors written but the word were in different colors to the words and trying to say them really fast messed with your mind and you could do it. I feel that sight is a strong sense it could well be the sense I use for this project.
